The NHL Care Team

Treatment and management of NHL involves a multidisciplinary approach. Treatment is overseen by a medical oncologist, a specialist in treating cancer, or a hematologist, who is a specialist in blood cancers. The patient may be referred to other healthcare providers who are experts in treating NHL.1,2

Additional Members of The Multidisciplinary Team

The multidisciplinary team (MDT) might also include some or all of the following professionals:3

Dietitian

Offers advice on eating healthy and helps to choose what to eat and drink, particularly if you have difficulties with eating, for example, as a side effect of treatment.

Occupational Therapist (OT)

Supports a patient to continue to engage with day-to-day activities. They provide information and advice about how to manage cancer-related fatigue. They could also suggest modifications and arrangements at home to help with daily routine activities.

Palliative Care Specialist

Helps improve quality of life associated with physical, psychological, social or spiritual needs. The important aspect of palliative care is in helping to control symptoms such as pain and sickness (nausea).

Physiotherapist

Works with the patient to improve physical problems and manage pain. They use techniques such as exercises to help build up strength and range of movement. They might also assess the patient to help them stay safe and independent at home in case of treatment-related mobility problems.

Research Nurse/Clinical Research Practitioner

Helps with information about clinical trials. If a patient decides to take part in one, a research nurse is involved in checking your health and progress and answers all queries about clinical trials.

The MDT team works together to provide best care and strive toward optimal outcomes.3
